In my Introduction to Spiritual Coaching class held tonight, a great question was posed by one of the students. The question was, "Is free will the same as Divine Order?" "In other words", the student described, "if someone is overweight, unhealthy and making bad choices (using their free will), is that in line with Divine Order (life unfolding just as it is supposed to unfold)"?
My answer was, "Yes, their life is unfolding just as it is supposed to unfold, negative choices and all".
We, as spiritual beings, are here on this earth as expressions of who and what God is. God is everything and the nothing in between. God is the ups and the downs. God is the healthy and the unhealthy. Even before we came into these physical forms, our souls chose what we would experience in our physical life (yes, free will being used, even in the spiritual realm). We can choose to experience anything, even what we describe as the negative, maladaptive choices and yes, even those choices are still in line with the expression of who God is.
For example, in order for a soul to experience forgiveness in this physical lifetime, they need someone (another soul) or even themselves, to do something harmful or painful to them. So, that someone, that perfect expression of who God is, has to choose to make negative or bad choices to hurt another or hurt themselves, for forgiveness to be experienced. This is beautifully illustrated in Neale Donald Walsch's book, The Little Soul and the Sun .
Because we have forgotten who we really are, we place parameters on who God is, thinking God is the light and not the dark. Well, the dark is a part of the whole; and because we are limitless spiritual beings with free will, and we are one with a limitless God, there are no parameters to our free will, just as there are no parameters to Who or What God Is. Our spiritual and physical lives unfold just as they are meant to unfold, in Divine Order.
