- Deepak Chopra, Creating Abundance Meditation Challenge
In this lifetime, you will always be faced with choices. Everything in life is a choice. What words come out of your mouth, what thoughts you think, what your beliefs are, how you act and react. All of these are choices we make every day. My question for you is… how do you make these choices?
There are several ways or mindsets from which choices are made. The first is the Negative Mindset. When someone has a Negative Mindset, they always have something unconstructive to say and are just waiting to be offended by someone or something. They sit there anticipating someone to look at them wrong or say something rude so their negative outlook on the world can be confirmed. When a choice needs to be made, the negative mindset will look for everything that could possible go wrong. Once that can’t be found, a reluctant decision will unfold, and even after that, a complaint about that decision is bound to occur.
Next is the Victim Mindset. This is when everything that happens in life is everyone else's fault. The person with a Victim Mindset does not take responsibility for anything. They can do no wrong because they don’t make any decisions, or so they think. Not taking action is, in fact, making a decision. The Victim Mindset believes that if they don’t do anything, then no responsibility has to be taken on their part. Everything is out of their control, and life is happening to them.
Then we have the Selfish Mindset. This is the mindset that says, “It’s all about me!” People like this think others have been put on this earth to meet their needs and anyone that does not comply has no place in their life. When a decision has to be made, the first thought from the Selfish Mindset is,“How does this benefit me?” If there is nothing to be gained personally, it’s a waste of their time.
There is also the Fear Mindset. This is when one has a “Yes, but”attitude. This person says things like, “Yes, I can start this business, but I don’t have the money, and I don’t have the time.” Fear is the obstacle that holds them back from fulfilling their dreams. When a choice has to be made, the Fear Mindset will remain in their comfort zone and is unable and/or unwilling to take a chance at something new.
Finally, there is the Conscious Mindset. This is the person that is fully present and involved in their own lives. They are open to the mystery of life and expect only good things to happen to them and those around them. The Conscious Mindset is filled with love and peace and knows there are limitless possibilities in this lifetime. When a decision has to be made, the Conscious Mindset asks, “Which choice is in the highest good for me and for others?”
We experience all of the above mindsets at different times in our lives. We all have times when we are selfish or afraid, when we don’t have something nice to say about someone or we make ourselves the victim. We also
have times when we are fully present and in a loving state of mind. The good news is we can choose our mindset at any given time, and great choices come from a Conscious Mind. Great choices cannot be made when they come from thoughts of fear, selfishness, apathy or negativity.
So how do we stay in a Conscious Mindset? First, practice clearing your mind. Take time to stop all the brain chatter and just be present. For some, this may be obtained by being in nature and noticing the birds, the trees,
listening to the sound of the wind. For others, this may happen through meditation. Do whatever you choose to clear your head and just be in the moment.
Next, say positive things to yourself such as “I am talented”,” I am intelligent” or “I have unlimited potential”. Repeat these positive affirmations often, even if you don’t believe them at first. Remember, a belief is simply a thought we think over and over again. As you allow these affirmations to settle in your consciousness, you will
feel more confident and making great choices will be effortless.
Finally, when you are faced with a difficult choice, write down your question with the intention of getting an answer. Then, get quiet, take a deep breath, read your question, and write down the first answer that comes to you. Trust that this is the right choice, because ultimately, all of the best choices are within you.
